The Story

Tired and broken by war, the men of the Brimlock Eleventh Imperial Guard are a force on the verge of collapse. Having been stretched across the galaxy by their loyalty to the Emperor, they are presented with one final battle that will allow them reward they all seek: to colonise the distant world of Voor and live out the rest of their days in peace. All that stands in their way is a force of savages – a plague of feral orks that has spread across the planet. But can the Brimlock’s battered bodies and minds hold up to this greenskin invasion?

Incredible

An awesome story that literally left me in tears at the end. I look for to more of your work.

Sublime

Rated 5 out of 5 by ReyDeeeezy

A sublime piece of writing by Richard Williams. As Ewan mentioned, the last several chapters were haunting in nature. A definite must read.

Epic

Rated 5 out of 5 by Logikk

I could not put this book down after I started reading it and finished it within twenty four hours of buying it. The entire book was a completely different take on a standard IG Regiment. The characters and story were well thought out and as the other two reviews stated the ending was unexpected and heart breaking. It is a definite must read.

Enthralling

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rhys

This is not a tale of immortal warriors, striding across the galaxy with weapons of awe and leaving devastation and heroic deeds in their wake. This is the Brimlock 11th, the survivors of countless pointless battles and misguided wars. They are just men, bitter, deeply flawed Guardsmen, struggling to find any reason to hope in a uncaring and utterly cruel universe. William's has brilliantly portrayed each and every character in his novel, from the petty rivalries and fractionalise infighting, depicting men who are trained to fight, and die, on command and without question. A must read.

Enjoyed the Book

Rated 4 out of 5 by Colby

I loved it.The eccentric, paranoid commanders; cunning, proud troops. All of them had a story. I have rated it a 4 because of Choppa. I would love a feral ork 40k book. Choppa was DA BOSS. Orks need more stories the few snippets we get are great but only snippets. Bottom Line a great book read it!

really worth buying

Rated 4 out of 5 by harley

This is a very good book. Really well written with good attention to detail, its really easy to envisage the many characters. Particularly the colour sergeant (who I can only picture speaking in a scottish accent) and the so naturally evil commissar. Really hard to put down as you just want to see what happens to everyone - and like everyone else has statd, the end is.....unexpected. Go read this book, its mean.

A psychological treatise

Rated 5 out of 5 by Andrew

Felt like reading an historical novel - the notion of an elite officer class (or not so elite given their traits) and the lives of the troopers. A study of the psychological aspects of war. WH40K has reached a turning point.

wow,,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by Derek

This book was not what I expected. It was deep, interesting, thought provoking, and just like all of the previous reviews, the last few chapters were heart breaking. It choked me up. I recomend this just for being an amazing book to anyone.

Imperial Glory

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dave

Excellent read. Build up is slow but steady. Interesting view on the imperial guard (veteran) hierarchy and (in)competent guardsmen. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, recommend it to everyone with a soft spot for the Guard!

'40K's grown up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Andrew

By the Emperor. I have NEVER read a more thrilling and emotional '40K book as this one. The ending almost tore my heart out! The characters in this book read like real, historical, figures and you generally get to love and hate them. The battles are so well written it's like you have watched them unfold first hand. BL - if this is what the future of WH40K is, then by golly, I love it. Please ask Mr. Willaims to write 100 more novels, thanks. If he does not, I will fist-fight a duck. Your choice.

Utterly Brilliant

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ash

A magnificent read, as on the blurb says its about a veteran regiment with all the quirks and regrets of 20 years worth of fighting. The reviews below can't underestimate how fantastic the story is and how devastating the last few chapters are. Well worth reading if you don't understand the traditional view of the 41st millennium. Is also a refreshing look at how Imperial Guard regiments operate. Richard Williams has shown true, gritty, unrelenting war in the 41st Millennium still has emotion behind it, whether it be sorrow, elation, exhaustion or pride. Keep writing Rich, we want to see more.
