I'd agree with the above, the Ultramarines movie really gave me respect for them, so the addition of Tyranids really makes me want this. [AND WE SHALL KNOW NO FEAR!]

I reserved judgement on how Gav would handle the Ultramarines but was pleased with what he has done. Cassius is written as an interesting character who fits his existing fluff well; a mixture of warrior, guardian of faith and fury, and inspiring leader. Conflict between the other Ultramarine's ideals and Cassius' also shows that not every Marine thinks the same way (even Ultramarines) and helps avoid the one-dimensional characters that sometime creep into Marine stories. The plot works well over the limited length of story and the battle scenes are well written, as one would expect from BL.
Great Read

So glad that I was able to get my hands on one of these, a truly great read and I simply could not put it down. Great to see the ultramarines back in action against their biggest enemy, hope that they will be making another appearance soon.
Not so great after all

After reading it one can feel the hatred for the nids by the UM. Most disappointing is the lack of elaborated description of the fight... Was hoppinh for more action pack fights.
Dissapointing

Having enjoyed Gav Thorpe's other work, this was a let down. I think the format was more to blame than the actual story, but for cost, I would expect more. The chief problems, in my opinion were these: 1) Cassius is the only character, and since he showed no growth or any real dimension, he wasn't able to really command the story enough to make up for its other deficits. 2) The tyrannids are also one dimensional, thus they didn't offer a story element to help flesh out Cassius or his background. They're just beasts to be shot and didn't advance any real aspect of the story.
