War has come to Nocturne. After decades of planning and slaughter Nihilan has mustered a vast armada of Dragon Warriors, dark eldar and Chaos renegades. In the name of vengeance he launches his assault on the Salamanders. Unrest plagues the Chapter’s ranks in the face of this invasion. A prophecy from the Tome of Fire has foretold of a saviour or destroyer, the psyker Librarian Dak’ir. As the attack begins and the Salamanders marshal their armies for battle, Dak’ir’s destiny is finally realised. Meanwhile, amidst the enemy fleet, Tsu’gan of the Firedrakes is held captive. With hell and fire all around them, a reckoning between these bitter rivals is at hand – its resolution will see the prophecy fulfilled and decide the fate of Nocturne.
‘Studded with standout set-pieces, from a gripping ambush by the dark eldar to a climactic battle that escalates beyond reason and keeps going.’ – SFX

5/5 just for the excitment factor! I have loved this series and it has propelled Kyme i think up their with the likes of McNeill and Abbnett as a great BL story teller. Dakir and Tsu'gan are characters of real depth that to few space marine books have.
The fires of war

This is a great wrap up to the Tome of Fire trilogy. Nick Kyme delivers a twisting turning, pulse pounding climax that taps into the salamanders history, and character. All the characters we've been introduced to have their moment to shine, and there's nothing to disappoint. For those who have followed the Salamaders from the beginning, you have to get this.
Disappointed
Rated 4 out of 5 by Charles
While I found the book to be another example of the high standards of all of the writers from the Black Library, the story line left me somewhat disappointed. To me it went from a story about the potential savoir/destroyer to revolving around everything else and then having Dak’ir’s life ending from an individual that did not maintain the standards of the chapter.
Awesome

This was a great novel and it kept reminding me of the battle of Fang where the Salamanders are fighting to save their world from destruction
