Great book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by mike

I missed out on this when it was first published and many times nearly paid a lot of money for a second hand coppy. I didn't and when I saw this i was really excited. It didn't disappoint, a fantastic reference book for the price. The only negative, and the reason I didn't award it all 5 stars, is that some of the illustrations are really showing their age. Compared to the current Marine Codex they look quite primitive. Black Library really should consider a new, updated edition of this.

Very informative

... I'm with Mike on this one.

Ultramarines again!!! and graphically poor. not worth the price plus postage!

I wrote a longer comment but the character count stopped me so I'll summarise. I've been into this hobby since the 1980s, I got this book and was firstly disappointed by how thin and flimsy it was compared to other source books of similar price. Graphically its very poor and you get better info in the latest codex Space Marines. Once again the main focus is Ultramarines so don't expect any insight or painting inspiration for other chapters. lots of 'cartoony' images interjected with old pictures from the White Dwarf back catalogue. Not worth £15, sending my copy back. falsely advertised.

great book! very helpfull fluff

the review by Thomas is a have to say rubbish its not falsely advertised ifhe did not like ultramairnes way by a book based on them? "Taking the Ultramarines chapter as its prime example" GREAT READ 5/5 helped my build my whole ultramarines 4th company

Great reference material for Astartes fans

Rated 5 out of 5 by Chris

I bought this back in the first edition, and have leafed through it many times over the years. It's a lovely piece of additional fluff for fans of Marine background, covering all aspects of chapter schemes and symbology, and provides lots of inspiration when planning iconography and colour schemes for squads. It could do with an update to the current Marine Codex, but then it's far from the only product we could say that for, which is the downfall of mutable fluff!
