A Prequel to quality

Rated 2 out of 5 by Max

Flesh and Iron, by Mr. Henry Zou, is a tale of the imperial guard that, despite it's strong beginning and middle, ultimately comes up lacking in several areas. The interesting story of brotherhood and camaraderie is marred by a few stock and 1 dimensional characters, lack of any discernible hero during the 3d act, a pointless subplot of murder and severe mischaracterization of certain organizations of the 40k universe. Its most glaring flaw however is it's message, which tells us that betrayal from one person, is literally cause for retribution against all involved. The first book is better

A Delightful Read

This is an outstanding novel. It is a bit slow and confusing in the first couple of pages, but afterwards it is fast paced and action-packed. The inevitable plot twist near the end of the book really makes it a must read.

Ehm

Good book, if it wasnt for the fact that it is war40k - set in that context its horrible. Characters seem "stereotypical" Writers knowledge of the war40k universe seems shallow

Bloody Brilliant. Mr. Zou, please don't listen to the SM fan-boys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Andrew

Seriously, what's with all the 1/5s? Like that on Amazon too. The man is a genius! Zou's books are some of the best military-sci/fi I've ever read. The characters are well fleshed out, the setting and scenery are awesome, you can really belivev the world he has created. This is a military-fiction book - it's about the Guard. Any one who understand how the military and soldiers in general work will appreciate Mr. Zou's wrirren. For once the Guard are written as a profession fighting unit, and not just a generic 'army' running around screaming awaiting Astartes help. Keep up the blindin' work!

Mr. Zou for the win!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Joel

This book, as well as this author, are a vary good use of your time. Not only do the Imperial Guard feel like a real military fighting force, the enemy's will make you hate them. It also shads light on the ugly side of the Imperium polices and greed. The setting and cast of characters are both well described, and likeable (or hateable depending on what side of that line there on for you) I look for more from Henry Zou, your vision into the Imperial Guard and outer organizations in the Massive Imperium are a fresh look at the Game and Universe we all love!

A gem of a book

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mark-Anthony

The way Henry Zou depicts the forces of Chaos is fresh and innovative. His prose is engaging as is the fleshing out of the characters. It shows that the author is a soldier in the Australian army, his military knowledge shows up in the quality of the work and the seemingly first hand depictions of the Imperial Guard and the ways of the military.

Excelent

I just finished reading and greatly enjoyed the chaos side of the story. I believe this one is even better than his first book and I enjoy the way Mr.Zou portrays the Imperium.
