The stakes are raised, and the story does more than continue the exploits of Dakir and Tsu'gan and co. Here we explore a bit more of a lesser known part of the 40k universe - the Dark Eldar. We get to understand a bit more of how twisted the race is, and thier motivations. His characterisation of Vulkan Hestan is illuminating, and story is really moving forward towards a very exciting finale.

Another solid read by Mr. Kyme! I'm really enjoying his take on the Salamander chapter as a whole and how, like the wolves of Russ, their identity is firmly intertwined with their homeworld - and what a bonus that is for the story arc. It is refreshing too that through the first two books the Salamanders continue to walk the line with becoming their own worst enemies, both on and off the battlefield. I loved Port Anguish as well (who can say no to the Dark Eldar??). With a strong finish to the trilogy, my fingers are crossed for a Heresy series novel on Vulkan. Keep it up, Nick!
Outstanding

Darn you Mr. Kyme! You have created a story arc that is so compelling and vivid that I must now pursue a Salamander army in the gaming world. Rich character development. Intense description of the Dark Eldar world. It is a fantastic read that has three story lines running with equally gripping timing, plot lines, and engaging and compelling events. For anyone who has enjoyed the works of the 40K universe, you will find this to be an intense and enjoyable read. Highly encourage you to read.
Nick Kyme is ON FIRE!

Nick Kyme has made a follow up to Salamander that is just as powerful as his previous work in the series! Very characterful! Strong plot, good twists and turns. A damn fine read! The Tome of Fire series is a powerhouse!
The Tome of Fire really starts to burn!
Rated 4 out of 5 by Xhalax
For me, Firedrake finally see the Tome of Fire books really take off, pulling together all of the myriad work that Mr. Kyme has given us to provide the backdrop for this story. Once more, we're gifted a slow burning book (no pun intended!) that explodes in the final third of the book and left me waiting eagerly for Nocturne and the culmination of this epic Salamander saga that we've been given over the course of two novels, one audiobook and a whole host of shorts. Unto the anvil!
Confused

I very much enjoyed Salamander, so much that I read it again before diving into Firedrake. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of important plot and character development takes place between books in short stories which are included elsewhere (I guess Fireborn and a story in one of the SM anthologies I'm told), which left me scratching my head as to who and what at various places. The book was good, the action fast paced, but there were just too many references to things that happened outside the series for me to really find a flow and enjoy it as much as I hoped to.
