A Bastion Wars novel
Inquisitor Roth and his henchman Silverstein are sent to the worlds of the Medina Corridor to uncover the location of a set of ancient artefacts. Meanwhile, the Ironclads, a force of Chaos traitors, invades the subsector in search of their artefacts for their own nefarious ends. With the Ironclads’ indomitable army crushing all before it, will Roth be able to find the artefacts in time and prevent a terrible cataclysm engulfing the Medina worlds?
"Mercy, indeed. Crunchy, vivid and memorable, with more shooty–death–kill–in–space than you can shake a chainsword at. Next time I need a galaxy burned, I’m sending for Mr Zou." — Dan Abnett

Excellent 40k novel, everything i would want from a book, love, action, freindship, betrayal, good plot, good use of characters, Inquisitor Roth is tough as old boots, can't wait for the second instalment of this series !

Emperors Mercy

Not a bad read. the action scenes are very colourful and well written. I felt a little let down by the plot. Your typical ultimate weapon that the enemy are after, but the forces of good need to destroy or deny to them. I have started reading Henry Zou's other novel Flesh and Iron and I am about half way through. I am finding this one much more enjoyable to read. It would be nice to see other forces rather than mankind vs chaos for a change.
Very nice!

Great book, Henry Zou carries on the Eisenhorn/Ravenor legacy! We need more books about the inquisitors!

I'm only giving this one star because it somehow managed to get published.Utter rubbish, one of the very, very few books I've ever read that is so bad I've not been able to finish it.Just terrible writing, doesn't stand comparison with any of the books dealing with the Inquisition that I've read so far.And the description of the action and tactics leaves me genuinely worried about the state of the Australian army if Mr Zou was truly a serviceman.I want my money back - putting good cover art on a book like this must come close to false advertising.
Dan Abnett was right about this guy

I have no idea how the above could only give this a 1, maybe they can’t read and it was lacking pictures but this was an amazing story, nothing sells a story to me more than when you can feel part of what you are reading, each soldier that died you felt you knew them. It was great to read about an inquisitor who wasn't bulked with power armour. Roth and Silverstein were 2 great characters and I hope to read about them in the future well done Zou an amazing read and I look forward to the next chapter.
Dissapointing

For the first time i have been let down by a war40k book. I bought 10 titles together, and must admit, that while reading this book, i read 3 other books in between, since i was simply bored, and as a war40k geek, dissapointed in misrepresentation of the war40k universe - either Mr Zou needs to read some war40k books and understand the universe before he publishes more books, or stop publishing for the black library.
The Beginning of the Bastion wars
Rated 4 out of 5 by Tyrannofex
This book is, quite simply, action-packed. From the very first page this is a tale of terrible war. If there is one thing that lets the book down it is that there are very slow parts in between the shooty-death-kill bits. These slow the whole plot down, describing the exact movement of Imperial or Ironclad troops. However, this book is incredibly well-written, comprising of mystery, action and adventure all in one. Zou always creates very believable characters: from the dynamic Roth to the heretical Korsobad Maw. Personally, I can't wait to read the next installment in the Bastion Wars series

For the people rating this - please state how many war40k books you have previously read when commenting. If you like the book, and youre new´ish to war40k, then go pick up the eisenhorn triology, or ravenor, and then try comparing it to this, and see if you still like it....

I've been reading warhammer 40k books now for the past year or so, and ever since my first read I've been hooked. while i did enjoy certain parts of this book and the characters involved, i was somewhat let down by the plot of the whole story. while im no expert in literature i still kinda had an empty unfufilled feeling once i finished this book. i would like to see the characters in other novels to come but as for this book it falls short of the standard for inquisitor novels compared to the ravenor trilogy.
great book absolutly fantastic

this book was my first warhammer 40K book and i really enjoyed it the characters are great and the story is easy to follow i thouroughly recommend this book and would read it again
Fast paced, action heavy, character poor.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Daniel H
This is fast past and action heavy. With a bucket load of coolness. Inquisitor Roth is a bad ass, he's cool. Silverstein is cool. There's a lot of things to like in this book. The female Inquisitor is a downside. It doesn't make sense, its not believable really, theres no justification or good explanation. Henry Zou struggles with characters, that much is clear from his first two books. This one is the better of the two, the story is a lot better and the ending is great! The fights are well handled, enjoyable and often brutal to read. Worth reading if you like action heavy, lite stories.
Emperor's Mercy

Quite frankly this was one of the best 40k books I've read outside of the Horus Heresy, and it even topped many of those. I've read quite a few 40k books over the years, and this is one of my favorites, as it gives us a different perspective on the Inquisition, and the galaxy as a whole. Korsobad Maw is now my favorite antagonist, and Roth is now my favorite inquisitor.
A Decent Read
Rated 3 out of 5 by Mohammad Abbas
Emperor's Mercy is Henry Zou's first novel and so requires a certain degree of leniancy when reviewed. It is DEFINITELY not on par with the works of seasoned Black Library veterans such as Dan Abnett and Graham McNeil, but it is still a decent and enjoyable read. There are several memorable moments in the book, and the action is quite enjoyable to read, especially near the end. However, I must agree with others that the plot is a bit bland and cliche. The author's knowledge of the 40k universe also seems somewhat limited. Regardless of all its flaws, Emperor's Mercy is a good first novel.

This is my - god I've lost count! - 40K Novel, I am the proud owner of the entire Gaunts Ghost collection as well as the Ravenor and Eisenhorn trillogies. In fact evey novel pertaining to the Imperium. No this isn't as great as all of those, but it is a compelling read, nice to see an inquisition book that doesnt span a decade or more and the plot/pace/detail more than justifies a short length mission in a back water world where 40k Tech is few and far between! no need to mention loads of tech and gear in an area where it wouldn't be placed. Great write Mr Zou I will follow you with interest.

Hmm
Rated 3 out of 5 by Allan
Giving this 3 out of 5 for 2 reasons. 1 : As other posters say "its chaos again" i agree and 2 : I loved reading this book from start to before the end. Great writer but the ending of this book is to me very very bad and quick. Maybe im used to something else from the other BL books on here, but overall a very nice book to read, just with a rushed ending it seems.

Overall a good read some of the character dialogue seemed a little stained and fake at times but the action was intense with a good amount of background detail.
