Courage and Honour

The noble Ultramarines epitomise the Space Marines, the genetically enhanced warriors who protect the Imperium from its foes. Newly returned from the Eye of Terror, Captain Uriel Ventris must redeem himself in the eyes of his battle-brothers, who fear he may have been tainted by Chaos. When the planet Pavonis is invaded by tau, what better opportunity could Uriel have to join his Chapter in combat and prove that his honour is beyond reproach?

Contrived and Horrible

Rated 1 out of 5 by Paul

Though McNeill was probly led to believe the concept of Space Marine reinstatement novel sounded good, it rambles unendingly and bores you to death. By pg. 100 the phrase "courage and honour" has been used nearly two dozen times and counting. (No kidding folks! Someone give this poor writer a Thesaurus.) This work by a renowned BL writer smacks of minimal effort and exhibits an artist who is just going through the motions. Pointless from begining to end and truly unfortunate, because past Ultramarine material seems to suggest otherwise.

Ventris versus The Greater Good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jeff Preston

Ventris and Pasanius are back and the 4th Company has returned to Pavonis to face a Tau incursion. The insight in to the methodology of this Xenos race is fantastic. McNeill really nailed it. On one hand he makes the “Greater Good” of the Tau seem totally preferable to the (honestly) heinously fascist Imperium of Man…Yet on the other you see an insidious side that says “Join us…OR ELSE”. The novel definitely has a message. “Adhere to the codex= Success, Deviate from the codex =Fail”. Overall it’s a good novel. I think Ultramarines fans will get more out of this than your general reader.

Courage and Honor

Rated 4 out of 5 by RageKage

As a fan of Uriel and his adventures, I have eagerly read every novel released about Uriel and the perils he faces in this fantasy world, nay Universe, that we all enjoy. This novel was enjoyable and kept me turning pages, I would recommend that anyone who follows the Ultramarines novels to pick this up and give it a try. Although, like Paul discovered and Jeff says, this isn't a novel for the casual 40k fan or general reader. Ps Paul could you do better? Doubtful. You can't take FANTASY serious fool!

Solid Hit

Rated 5 out of 5 by Garrick

Graham just knocked it out of the park. Again. I'm a disciple of Dan Abnett, but Graham McNeill is a real contender for top dog in the 40K fluff universe. I will say as with all series, it is best to start at the beginning. The whole Uriel Ventris / Honsou saga is a very rich part of the 40K storyline. I will say though that this book is not quite as good as the book preceeding it.

A good return

Rated 4 out of 5 by Damion

I really enjoy the Uriel Ventris saga and hope it continues to progress as it has done. In my opinion it dose not ramble and the use of "courage and honour" throughout the novel is just as this is the name of the book. I was disappointed to read of Pasanius being incarcerated but that is the Ultramarine way by the book. I will continue to read the seris and hope that they continue to keep coming.
