In this two-book sequence, author James Swallow brings the Blood Angels Chapter to life. In an epic story of heroism, corruption and betrayal, battle-brothers Rafen and Arkio find themselves pitted against each other in a battle for the very soul of the chapter.
When Brother Arkio claims to be a reincarnation of Sanguinius, the Blood Angels’ spiritual father, the message is clear: follow me or die. Rafen kneels before Arkio and swears an oath of devotion – but the words are ashes in his mouth, and in his heart, he knows that he and his brother will have a reckoning that only one of them will survive.

Absolute class!!

I have avoided reading this book for a few years now, simply because I didn't care much for the Blood Angels as a chapter to begin with. However, with the release of the new codex and my new found love for the Blood Angels I decided to give these stories a try. And all I can say is that I am disgusted at myself for not reading them sooner, whether I liked Blood Angels or not!!! This is an original and amazing story, James Swallow creates such vivid imagery in your mind with his words, and come the end you find yourself not wanting it to finish. Hope the next two books come in an Omnibus format
Disappointed
Rated 3 out of 5 by Javier
In my humble opinion, this book is not as good as others you can get. The story is quite good, and it has some really interesting ideas. But it´s not at the same level. I must say something: it gets better. I disliked the first book, read the second only to know what happen to Arkio and actually enjoyed the third.
Chaos in one!

Well written and absolutely amazing twists. Who would have thought Chaos could almost destroy a Space Marine chapter like the Blood Angels! I don't care much for the Blood Angels but enjoyed it none the less.
exellent thus far

it is low because i have not finished the whole omnibus.I just got it yesterday and i have alreay perused the first book and i belive im fresh on deus sanguinius.i confused William Swallow for Simon Scarrow the guy who writes a lot of roman military fiction.its not a bad comparison at all.just goes to show how much quality is in this installment.i regard myself an intelligent fellow so i want intelligent fiction.i want you to take me somwhere unbelivable but probable.you sir are doing a great job.i am there.i just wanna get in the story and kill that inquisitor,he wounds the emperors finest.

pretty damn good
Rated 4 out of 5 by Bobahoff
Having just started a blood angels army this was pretty much a must read for me and have to say i really loved it. the only reason that its not a 5 is because the author gets the red thirst confused with the black rage a few times which occasionally got annoying but other wise a top quality read which i smashed trough in under a week cos i couldnt put it down, wife not happy:(
Real character, real story
Rated 5 out of 5 by Zak
Urel Ventris shows true leadership, Ragnar Blackmane shows real dedication, Gabriel Angelos shows inspiring character, but Rafen shows actual soul in these stories. He shows real emotion that is shown rarely in the other space marine stories which is surprising. James Swallow makes a realistic story that defines the the connection between the marine and the "regular" human. A single warrior against his entire company of battle-brothers in belief of their revived "father" through his actual brother and must kill him. Only to realize a possible civil war in the chapter.
Astounding

This was the first 40k novel I read, and I must say it really impressed me, and the story is still burned in my mind nearly 2 years later. The characters are believable, at least as far as Spacemarines are concerned, and Ramius Stele (spelling?) brought me extremely close to becoming a fan of Chaos. I agree with Daniel; you will not want this epic to come to an end.
pretty good

the story was good and the characters alright but i just felt it was missing something. the battle between arkio and Rafen was way better then some of the Primarch battles in HH tbh.
Brilliant story!

Even if you aren't a great fan of the Blood Angels this a fabolous book to read just for the sibling rivalry between Rafen and Arkio and seeing the legendary Spear of Telesto in action against those of the hated Word Bearers Choas Legion. Great book from James Swallow and a must read for any Astartes fan.
