Hey Shane, the XIV legion is the Death Guard...Texas Ranger. I always wondered about the cover myself. That's clearly not the Luna Wolves
Best book ever.

This book set the standard high for the Horus Heresy, and I mean, real high. Garviel Loken flew right up onto the first spot on my top 5 character list. Also, Abnett is god. He has to be.
Superb

Finally got round to reading the HH series and pleased to say that Dan Abnett surpasses himself again. Great writing, dialogue and action in an interesting study of a hero's fall from grace.
in regards to the cover image + awesome
Rated 5 out of 5 by Jason
in regards to the cover image, it is likely that the roman numerals XIV are denoting the company they are from. the larger image (from the poster) has a space marine in identical armor but with the shoulder badge displaying XI standing off to the left of them. that doesnt even correspond to a legion! anyways just a thought. in regards to the book, very fun (even moving :O) read.
Amazing!

This book is simply amazing! Such a great start to such a great series. Dan Abnett nails the plot, characters, details and everything. I literally could not put it down once I started. Garviel Loken is definitely one of my favorite 40k characters now. I immediately went out and bought the rest of the HH series. I'm reading through it currently and loving it! As for the argument about the legion on the cover, it's the Sons of Horus. Not the Luna Wolves, not the Death Guard. But the Sons of Horus. The roman numerals on their shoulder guards are company numbers not legion numbers. ;)

A brilliant start to an epic series, also by a brilliant author. I cannot recommend it enough. Although others in the series fall short of this, Horus Rising set a new standard for Black Library books. And its Sons of Horus on the cover.
