"Blood Games", a Palace Custodes story with spies, hidden plans, and assassination attempts so close to the Throne of Terra you can hear the wolves gather. "Wolf at the Door", regrettably becomes drivel without real import. "Scions of the Storm" reveals the madness that is to become the Word Bearers. "The Voice", a Sisters of Battle mystery struggling with faith, pride, and honor. "Call of the Lion" glimpses the rift of the Dark Angels. "After Desh'ea", with jolting violence witness the ascension of a Primarch. "The Last Church", one of the most thought provoking stories to come out of BL.
Good enough for me

New stuff. Need more. Now. "Blood Games" (4/5): good reading about the Custodes. "After Desh'ea" (5/5): some insight into Angron´s reasons. "Wolf at the Door" (5/5): hey this people should have joined us. "The Last Church" (5/5): just big E talking with an old priest about religion. "The Voice" (1/5): so the Sisters of Silence were just young girls who can´t stop talking about their feelings? A far cry away from the awesome looking warriors of Coleected Vissions, isn´t it? "Scions of the Storm" (5/5): men I love Word Bearers. "Call of the Lion": (4/5): more stuff to know about Dark Angels.
Much better than expected

I initially was wary of a short story collection, more concerned with the continuation of the Horus Heresy plotline. I was quite suprised to find such a great read. These stories provide answers, and help round out some gaps or pieces fron the Heresy series; a must have for any Horus Heresy reader. "The Last Church" certainly contains revelations for the entire Warhammer 40K series.
Fantastic anthology!

Blood Games by Dan Abnett. 3/5 Custodes are so metal! Wolf at the Door by Mike Lee. 4/5 I don't even like Space Wolves & Mike Lee did a smashing job! Scions of the Storm by Anthony Reynolds 3/5 Word Bearers. Starts a bit slow but finishes strong! The Voice by James Swallow 4/5 a return of the Sisters of Silence and Amendera Kendel. Awesome! Call of the Lion by Gav Thorpe 3/5 Dark Angels goodness between a loyalist and "fallen". The Last Church by Graham McNeill 5/5 This was simply stunning. Wow! After Desh’ea by Matthew Farrer 2/5 Kept seeing Angron using Kharn as a chew toy. HULK SMASH
