An atmospheric tale from the Heresy

Rated 3 out of 5 by Brother Endeavour

I thoroughly enjoyed Raven’s Flight: the story provides good characterisation for the Raven Guard Primarch Corax and background to his Legion; while the relationship between humans and Space Marines – and how this can quickly become very fragile – is the core theme Gav Thorpe explores throughout the tale. It is also a concept of fundamental significance in the context of the Horus Heresy, which makes the story all the more engrossing. Anyone who is a fan of 40K, the Horus Heresy or the Raven Guard will have a great time listening to this thought-provoking and dynamic story - recommended

First Audio purchase

I have read all the Heresy books to date, so I thought I would try an audio book. This was a good choice for my first. LIstening rather than reading brings the story even further to life, if you want to listen rather than read, I would highly recommend, it is now a permanent fixture on my iPOD and iPhone, if I listen to the story any more, I will now the words right the way through ;-)

Just better in print!

I don't feel that any of the audio books have brought anything to the 40K world. While the storylines are still interesting I far prefer the chance to sit down and go through the well written texts of a passionate author. The tapes are just a bit sterile for my liking. It takes a god like primach, and makes him just a hoarse sounding old man. theirs a reason there's limited pictures of the Emperor, we as mortals weren't supposed to be able to look at him, it's the same with the primachs, I don't think their voices were meant for human ears. It's unfair to ONLY get these stories as cd's

Amazing and enjoyable.

Certainly one of the best stories I know of in Black Library. The story takes off from where the Isstvan 5 part of Fulgrim stops, and really captures the horrors there. Recommended to any one who likes the HH series and the Space Marines. If there'll be a sequel I'm sure to get it!

Well Told

The story is just brilliant the sound effects make the story intense and what a build up it is. The story essentially focus's on three characters Corax and the admiral mostly.

Makes for an entertaining commute

This is the first audio book I have ever purchased. I tend to think of these things as books for lazy people, but I have enjoyed reading the Heresy books so much that I decided to give Raven's Flight a listen. First off, Terry Longworth does an excellent job of engaging the listener and bringing a dynamic element to the narration. A little campy but highly entertaining. The strongest component of the story was Corax's internal monologue, and his attempt to understand why his world has turned upside down and the broader implications of the betrayal. I just wish the story had been longer.

Surprisingly Brilliant.

I've never been a huge fan of audiobooks, which is why I am very surprised how good this turned out. I hope all audiobooks in the future are done to this standard. Definitely the best audiobook brought out by BL imo.
