But what drives the Alpha Legion? Can they be trusted, and what side will they choose when the Great War begins? Rated 4 out of 5 by Paul
Internal intrigue, espionage, and alien conspiracy intertwine in this 7th novel of the Great Heresy. As always, Abnett launches us into the story with his signature pacing and plot development. Stuck in a war of attrition against a seemingly weaker foe, the Imerials are hard pressed and frustrated. This backdrop is but the beginning stage that will drive the forces of the Emperor's might into a stunning climax where only one choice can be made. As Abnett adds further to this convoluted volume, he gives us a rather unique take on apostasy and the forces that turn brother to war against brother.
Fantastic!

One of the best Heresy novels. It really draws together all the aspects required for a great book; conspiracy, intrigue, action, plot twists and stunning revelations. Abnett really brings the Alpha Legion to life, showing the brilliance of the Last Legion through the eyes of the Imperial Army. The novel can be described as an intricate game of cat & mouse with the galaxy hanging in the balance, with the operatives of the Imperial Army, the Alpha Legion and an Xenos intelligence all trying to outsmart each other, climaxing in a shocking revelation that will shake the foundations of the Heresy.
Ooh! It's the Alpha Legion, wait...no it's not

While I am a big fan of Abnett's work, I had real difficulty getting into this book. I did feel it had quite a few interesting twists and turns, but had so little to do with the Alpha Legion for most of the book. I feel as though I fell into the trap of judging a book by its cover. I kept wanting more and more of the legion, and kept getting less and less. I get where it's coming from, but I feel like the author tried character development by not developing the marine characters at all. When they were in the book at all, it was fantastic! It just could have been so much more...
Loved it

go on an expedition with xx legion & (very cool) friends

I loved this book. Dan Abnett chose to explore the perspectives of a very cool Imperial Army unit, a psyker spy, and a legion whose notoriety lies in their withdrawn, covert nature. Dan Abnett couples action with some great background info, making this book truly enjoyable. Highly Recommended.
Stunning

I've not commented on any of the dozens of books I read from the Black Library before but after finishing Legion last night I felt compelled. Easily the best book so far in the HH series, I was hooked from the first page to the very last, the story arcs were perfectly pitched and the characters so incredibly believable. This is definatly the most believable of all the legions turn to Chaos and it was played out expertly with plenty of twists and turns. As is so often the case with Abnett's work he has knocked this one right out of the park, Bravo!
Good and Bad

Honestly my least favorite of the series. Now this book wasn't bad by any means but it left me wanting. I wanted to learn more about the XX legion I wanted to know more about the Primarch(s) all in all i was just unsatisfied
Loved it

Definitely my favourite so far. This books takes the series and turns it on its ear, with a totally different take on the fall of a legion. I do sympathize with those who wanted more insight to the Alpha Legion, but then again, it *is* the most cryptic and hidden of the legions, if Dan laid it all out for us, where would the mystery be?
Hydra Dominatus !

Very appropriately for an Alpha legion book, there are almost no battles, and our big power-armoured guys aren't to be seen very often. But who the hell cares, it's amazing the same. Intrigue and espionage on all levels, well written and well organized. Alpha Legion rules....
Supreme

As a big fan of the Alpha Legion and a stoic believer in the ideology that in the 40k Envrionment there are still some pockets of loyal Alphas romping about somewhere (even if only on my custom army settings on Dawn of War!). This is actually the book that got me back into BL, having bought it as soon as I realised which legion it focussed on...and then getting it signed too(Thanks Dan!). A great read about a legion that needs to get more attention!! If this gets a follow up, you may assume I'll be first in line!
Leaves you wanting more

Although this book focuses more on the imperial army and the cabal than the XX legion, I feel it portrayed them in the light they need; secretive, manipulative, mysterious. I certainly hope for a follow up on the Alpha Legion.
Amazingly intelligent

I adored this one. Dan Abnett captured the Alpha Legion perfectly, and provided a capturing tale where you never know for certain who is manipulating who.
