Editor took too long a lunch break...

Rated 1 out of 5 by Paul

First half of the book is just a mediocre rehash of medieval legends while the 2nd half just sci-fi fluff. The story attempts to be grand but, you find yourself not caring for anyone in particular. The action scenes, though interesting, do not seem poignant enough and quite predictable. This farce must be blamed on the BL editing department. Either way, this installment seems to carry all the style of the 40k universe but sadly, no substance. Oddly placed in the Horus Heresy series, it tastes like filler no matter how you slice it.

Ok, I liked it

I want to recommend this book. I have read over half a hundred books of BL and sometimes, just sometimes, I got tired of the same war-war-war. This book is slower than the others, and it lacks any relation with the rest. But it is quite good written, it has a LOT of new stuff about the Dark Angels and it gives them what they deserve: a lot of pages to unravel a few of their secrets. I enjoyed it. I want the same for other legions. Perhaps the critics are due to the fact that it show us quite a strange Legion. Is Lionel loyal? Is he a good leader? To be continued.

come on...it's a dark angels origin

It's hard not to like this book, given the subject matter. As with most of the Heresy series, it tries to fill in a lot of the back story in the 40k universe. It also provides some tantalizing teasers. For me it was an interesting read and it kept me guessing.

It was good but

it was good, liked it, but if released with fallen angles would have been better (read one after another) also after fulgrim it just didn't have the uumph, good book but un-conviniantly placed

Terrible, terrible

The biggest problem of this book seems to be that it doesn't contain any spacemarines for the first 80%. Further, I was completely unable to care about any of the main characters. And I had such high expectations for this one...

Wicked!!! But how come the Emperor permits librarians in this novel??

Rated 5 out of 5 by Alex

From start to finish a fantastic novel of accendancy from knights of the order to that of the Dark Angel Brotherhood. I read from cover to cover in 2days and was enthraled just like i was with the angels of darkness (non horus novel). However at the time of the Golden Crusade and in most Horus Heresy novels it states that the Emperor does no emply the use of psychics in his astartes legions??? Yet contrary to this fact there is a Librarian Faction in the dark angels at this time?If i have missed something can someone please fill me in as to why they are present an not in the previous 5 novels

love it
