Bobby Wong won the 2001 Golden Demon awards Slayer Sword at the US games day with his magnificent Bloodquest squad. We invited him to tell us how he went about producing these amazing models and heres what he said ...
1.
Flatten a ball of putty.
2.
Smooth out the putty, and divide it into quarters.
3.
With a brass tube, mark the center of the putty.
4.
Scrape away the top half of the putty, including the center round cut out, then make 3-4 marks with a needle set a shallow angle.
5.
When dry cut off each "wing" and glue to the belt buckle.
Legs - To recreate the original pose, a pair of Assault Marine legs was cut at the left hip, and repositioned up and outward, and pinned in place. Greenstuff was pushed into the gap at the hip, and a ribbed texture was sculpted with a moistened needle. To give Leonatos a bit more height, a cap of greenstuff was added to the top of the torso ball joint. A ball of greenstuff was flattened against the right knee armor, and a skull detail (taken from the Chaos Vehicle spiked ram) was glued on. Test fit the already assembled torso, and glue on Frag grenades and the holstered pistol. Remember to cut off a spare bolt clip, and glue it to the holstered pistol for accuracy. A tabard made from greenstuff was then glued between his legs.
Backpack - I glued a small plastic blood drop to the blank panel on the backpack, and then glued the greenstuff cape making sure the torso-mounting hole was not covered. I then made an Iron Halo, first cutting a half-round "U" shape from plasticard, and then gluing on 5 plastic triangles to it. Rivets were then added front and back, and was pinned in place to the backpack.
