The story

As the Horus Heresy divides the Imperium, Corax and his few remaining Raven Guard escape the massacre at Isstvan V. Tending to their wounds, the bloodied Space Marines endeavour to replenish their numbers and return to the fray, taking the fight to the traitor Warmaster. Distraught at the crippling blow dealt to his Legion, Corax returns to Terra to seek the aid of his father – the Emperor of Mankind. Granted access to ancient secrets, Corax begins to rebuild the Raven Guard, planning his revenge against his treacherous brother primarchs. But not all his remaining warriors are who they appear to be… the mysterious Alpha Legion have infiltrated the survivors and plan to destroy the Raven Guard before they can rebuild and threaten Horus’s plans.

The score above represents Anticipation. I adore the Raven Guard. My favourite of the Loyalist Astartes. I love Corax too, so I cannot wait for this. The mighty Gav Thorpe too, so I am chomping at the bit!

Can't wait

Rated 5 out of 5 by Leefus

Can't wait to finally get some more Raven Guard action! Corax seems like one of the tougher loyalist Primarchs, he's likes to take on the enemy face to face...wish he would have gotten that turn-coat Lorgar though!

I hope you've been paying attention..

Without a doubt one of the best books in the series so far. Great action, intrigue, filling in gaps and expanding on previous stories within the series while providing some tasty foreshadowing, this was pure fanjoy for me. Only issue was a slight dip towards the start of the third act but have no worries, this is just to set up an ace, fist pumping, chest pounding finale that'll have you yearning more more Raven Guard action than you can handle. I am Alpharius...

Great Read

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fredrik

Undoubtedly one of the best books in the series. The pacing is smooth, the characters are interesting and Mr Thorpe manages to make both sides sympathetic. He stays true to established lore and expertly expands and digs deeper into the history of the Raven Guard and also gives Alpha Legion fans a treat. Had a hard time putting this one down at night so I have an entire week of bad morning to blame on this book.

MP3

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mohammed

Thank you blacklibrary so much for providing an MP3 version, as I am a big fan of the series but sadly the way my life is heading, I dont have as much time as I used to. So listening to it while driving back and forth from home to work is ideal.

Action, Lore and Development

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gruffudd

An excellent book providing superb detail of the escape of one of the Legions nearly destroyed at Isvaan V. Excellent intrigue of how the Emperor created his sons and warriors and the development of Astartes armour. I can only hope that the survival of Vulkan and the Salamanders as well as the survival of the Iron Hands are portrayed as well in future books!! Great writing Gav!!!

The Only Question

Rated 5 out of 5 by GreGory

The only question this book leaves me with that's really worth asking is... why we had to wait 18 books to get Mr. Thorpe into the Heresy.

Great book.

Wowie Freakin' Zowie! splat! Now I'm a Cog-Brain!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Curt W. Sigg

Random Scrap-Code Translated to Old Terran Dialect - The book is so good that brain exploded wand had to be replaced with a cogitator and I had to be made into a servitor. As a cog-brain I can't do much else anymore. It was worth it though! Oh well, I gotta go back to work. The Chaplain needs to use the brazier attached to my back again.

Hope...There is none

Rated 5 out of 5 by Portarious

For the Raven Gaurd there is no hope! How does a legion recover from devasatation. How does a primarch deal with such defeat. At what lengths will the imperium go to defeat Horus. An awesome read, so good to see another book centred around a Primarch and devling into war of the spirit and the flesh fought by each legion in their own way. I am Alpharius......

Deliverance unbowed

Rated 5 out of 5 by Brian Andrews

This was an excellent listen. I loved how Mr Armstrong gave the Raven Guard a London accent (perhaps a nod to our own Ravens in the Tower of London?). I loved how we got to get close to the actual instruments used to create the Primarchs and how the raptors were shown to be Raven Guard at heart. One of my favourite BL reads ever.

Brilliant

Basically everything everyone else said. I only wish it'd been longer, the character of the Alpharius operative was so interesting, as well as the labyrinth battle. For me, that scene especially should be worthy of its own novella... ;) Keep it up Gav

Too good to miss

Usually I am very worried that the heresy books are dry after reading but this doesn't give me that feeling at all, a really good book

A series akin to good wine

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mark-Anthony

The Horus Heresy series is like good wine, as it gets older, as it matures, it gets better. Gav Thorpe's latest installment is one of the very best in the series. The flashbacks to the uprising of the prisoners were well done and provided a much needed glimpse into Corax's past. The characters were believable and had a depth to the, something difficult to achieve with the Astartes. The Alpha Legion operative was a well developed character. The journey through the Labyrinth was exquisitely done as were the scenes in Ravendelve. If I could give this book a higher rating I would.

Can't for more

Rated 5 out of 5 by Derek

This book was so amazing. The look at the raven guard, the alpha legion and Corax's past. I can't wait for more from either legion! Non-Deliverance Lost rant, I am still bothered by the fact that Horus still hasn't done anything to really make me (the reader) feel the fear I'm being told to feel. He's always sitting or talking, or having someone else do the talking for him.

Deliverance Lost

MP3 Its been over a month now, thank you for having this title on MP3. Listening to the stories makes my drive to and from work very enjoyable. Corvus Corax and the Raven Guard are my favorite Loyalist Astartes. I haven't read Warhammer Raven's Flight or Deliverance Lost for that matter, yet i found it strange while listening to the MP3(Deliverance) and CD(Raven's Flight) and heard both narrator's describe the same events that took place in both stories, except for a slight change in detail. Was this intended? I believe so.

Great read

Rated 5 out of 5 by Damian

Definately one of the best of the series so far, well detailed action and characters along with a look into the past, won't spoil it though by mentioning whos past and what happenened.

primarch

Rated 5 out of 5 by harry

i'm not that into Raven guard so i was a bit weary about it but i found my worries to be needless. First was that it showed the audience the inside of a primarchs mind and pulled it off flawlessy. the second is that i loved how it showed background on the raven guard primarch and showed you the raven guard astartes without diminishing the roles of the human or Alpha legion. the book all but read itself and was a perfect example of

Excellent book on a doomed Legion...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shakok

I think Mr. Thorpe did very well on this book about a legion who survived the Isstvan massacre and where do they go from there. Corax was excellent, you can actually feel sorry for the Primarch who escaped from the trap and saw his legion decimated and desperate to rebuild his forces. Yet unaware that the callous Alpha Legion are trying to compromise his rebuilding work. This is a very enjoyable and action packed novel, hoping we might see more of Gav Thorpe's writing later in the series and whether we will find out of other two loyalist legions on how they survived the massacre?
