Nemesis

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jeff Preston

Another strong addition to the Horus Heresy series. James Swallow has written a smart, savvy murder-mystery, CSI, Kill-team novel set in the 40k (30k?) Universe and it totally works on several levels.

Epic

Rated 5 out of 5 by Marc Collins

Nemesis showcases Swallow's talent to the full. A complex, intricate web of assassination, trickery and darkest sorcery- the novel blends together a variety of genres; blending police procedural with espionage thriller. The conclusion may be foregone, but Swallow's writing makes the journey enjoyable and gripping. Well-rounded characters, enjoyable plots and a brilliant scope make this one of the best of the series thusfar.

Beautifully written!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Agent Migs

I was a little undecided if James Swallow was my favorite Black Library author but this one really wins my favor! (sorry Graham McNeill). Its a wonderful book and isnt filled with the ubiquitous Space Marine battles we've been reading about practically the whole time! No pock marked ceramite in this one. The assassins in the book are exciting characters and are fleshed out really well without having you lose interest, and they compliment each other well. Good luck out doing yourself on the next novel you bring out. Awesome work :P

stunning

An awesome blend of a 40k novel and a CSI episode, this book showcases Swallow's talent. James Swallow is fast becoming one of my favorites.

Wow

Nemesis

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lord Ravenouse

James Swallow once again brings death and glory from the dark abyss of chaotic space. Nemesis looks like another great read from someone who I activly search other works of. Games Workshop need to put this guy on retainer or something. An inspiring novel of courage and glory in the dark for all subjects of the Empror of man.

Weak Material, BL takes a Tangential Direction.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Max

Then entire plot of this book is irrelevent, as most fans of the series already know the inevitable outcome. The idea of assassin clades is introduced well, but too many characters are portrayed, all of whom appear quite shallow. The fault lies not with Swallow, but BL for pushing weak material in the first place. This tangent is more like a generic TV episode, where we have little interest in what happens to the characters. If the series continues in tangential directions Black Library will need to take a step back after this "Nemesis" of a novel.

alright

Rated 2 out of 5 by David

Just finished this isntallment of the series and I was disappointed a little. the plot was good, and for the most part there were characters that you could really if not love like. My biggest problem with this book is that a sniper had not properly identified the target. This does not make sense now and it wouldnt in the far future. This may not be as important to some people but one thing my favorite author(Dan Abnett) does beautifully in most circumstances. overall, a decent read. Oh, and I realize this book isnt based on reality but thats just my opinion, thanks.

I was really looking forward to this as James Swallows' other book in the series, "The Flight Of The Eisenstein" is my favourite to date. I was thrilled to find out what the book was about and was even more thrilled by the fact it lived up to my expectations. The concept of this book is superb, for me it was a first look at certain assassin clades and that the leader was a Vindicare (the only figurine I still have from my TT days), was the icing on a great and bloody cake. It was also a great inegration of the concept of "who done it?" into the Horus Heresy. Grissom would be proud! I sure was!

Great work, Mr. Swallow

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shakok

Another non Space Marine novel but excellent book throughout. Another chance to see the other organisation (like the Mechanicum book) at work in the Imperium during the rebellion. Mr. Swallow did a good introducion on each assassins and gave a very good nerve gripping and well paced ending. Well done!

Better then I thought

Rated 3 out of 5 by Daniel

I think Mr.Swallow made a great effort, close to a 4 but still only getting a 3. Some cool characters and overall intriguing.

Great book, enough said.

Good, but not really a standout

Rated 3 out of 5 by Stephan

This book had a good story and explored an interesting angle but the characterization was a little flimsy and I think that is what made this book a little less compelling than some of the McNeil and Abnett classics, to me at least. Also, and maybe this is just me being picky, I felt like the portrayal of the assassins did not really fit the persona that they are usually associated with in the larger 40k universe. The other kind of weird thing (semi-spoiler alert) was that the book ended on with a semi-pedantic anti-assassin message, which was not what I expected.
