The oceans of the Old World have fallen silent. The waves are haunted by the Butcher Ship, a nightmare vessel manned by zombies and captained by a daemon lord. Its ghastly crew bring about a reign of terror on the high seas, killing anyone they encounter. When infamous pirate captain Luka Silvaro returns to reclaim his craft and crew, he is given the most important – and lucrative – assignment of his career. Supported by the Prince of Luccini, Silvaro knows he will be able to claim a king’s ransom if he can defeat the daemon lord. But he will have to face treachery from within, the dangers of the high seas and the Chaos-infested crew of the Butcher Ship if he is to earn his reward.

adventure on the high seas of the Old World

I enjoyed this one a lot. It's always fun to see the less-visited aspects of the Warhammer world, especially with a superbly talented author like Abnett. The hunt and face-off with dark magics that even frighten treacherous pirates is a hard lure to resist. If you missed your chance to get this one circa 2006 then definitely don't hesitate to grab it now. At the time, the concept did seem obliquely derivative of certain popular films starring Johnny Depp, but fear not, Fell Cargo has its own memorable characters and brutal Warhammer feel layered with the beauty and terror of medieval voyaging.
Abnett's Worst Book To Date

Dan Abnett is my favorite author and has been for a long while. This coupled with my love of pirates inspired me to hunt down the original Fell Cargo from Amazon. I was sorely disappointed. As headman78 says "I did not get the Dan vibe from this book." The characters were flat and the story was uneventful. The zombies only appear on the last ten pages. Unless you are a collector of Abnett, like I am, pass this one over. If you must get a Warhammer/Abnett fix try his Malus Darkblade series. But please save your money and do not purchase this reprint.
Awsome

This was a fun book to read, with a story from a section of warhammer that isn't written about enough. I did feel that it felt a bit rushed.
