Our most common questions

In which order should I read the books?
Our books do not tell a sequential tale of Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 but tell the tales of the battles or events of the period. If it’s easier, think of each novel or series as telling of a battle or following a character or company through an engagement set during WWII rather than being the definitive history of the entire war. Each book listed on this site refers to the others in the series.

Which book should I read first?
Our new reader section contains a few suggestions to start you off, but you can start any where you like.

Is there a way to submit unsolicited work to the Black Library?
We periodically run open submission periods for writers to send our editors their ideas. For more information take a look at our writer's guidelines on our FAQ : Working for Black Library page.

Where can I buy your books?
Why direct from this website of course! You can also find our books in all good bookstores, they are also available to purchase through all Games Workshop stores worldwide and other on-line book seller.

My local bookshop doesn’t stock your books
Our books should be available in all good bookstores, if you don’t see them in your local store then why not ask them to start stocking them. Our books are also available from Games Workshop stores worldwide and, of course, you can buy them direct from this website.

I run a bookshop can I stock your books?
Of course, we are represented in the book trade by Simon & Schuster, so please contact the head office in your territory and we’re sure they will be delighted to hear from you.

I run a game store can I stock your books?
We’d be delighted. Please call the trade department of Games Workshop in your territory who will be happy to help you.

Will you do all your books as ebooks? Will you make your audio books available on itunes?

We are still looking into how best to produce ebooks and make them available, and we are looking into how to distribute our audio products as digital editions. For more information visit our Digital products, ebooks and audio page.

My book is damaged, has pages missing, a repeated section. Will you replace it?

If you purchased damaged or defective book from a source other than this website, please return it to the place of purchase. To notify us about damaged or defective products that you have purchased from this website please get in touch and we will let you know what to do.

Who are your books suitable for?

Generally we recommend that our books can be considered similar to movies which are rated PG-13, so may not be suitable for some younger readers but should appeal to anyone interested in SF and Fantasy.
