Frequently asked questions : Print on Demand
How does print on demand work?
When you place an order on our website, your order is sent directly to our printers who print and bind a copy of the book to fulfill your order. That’s why the print on demand books are a little more expensive.
So, how long does it take to print a book through print on demand?
Up to five days, but there isn't a delay created by the book coming to us for despatch to you. Your order is printed, put in a box and sent straight to your door.
If I order some of your latest novels and print on demand don't you send them together?
No, we send the novels from our warehouse and the rest of your order will ship in a seperate box from the printers.
That’s great! Can I demand any book from print on demand? Why haven’t you released your entire back catalogue at once?
We have in excess of 300 titles in our back catalogue and each one would need a fresh design and typesetting again from scratch. Despite appearances to the contrary, our production department are only human and are already busy enough putting out our main range novels.
Why do some Print on Demand titles have a Heretic Tomes logo on them?
Some of the titles in our back catalogue no longer accurately reflect the fictional universes of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 and would require extensive rewriting to bring them up to date. Rather than keep these titles on the shelf, we’ve decided to reprint them but make it quite clear that these books are not to be considered an accurate portrayal of the Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Why are the books a different size from the other Black Library paperbacks? Doesn’t that mean you can just charge more for them?
The Print on Demand titles are a premium, exclusive range to our website and by making them a larger format it helps highlight that premium nature. Because each book is produced individually by the same method, it actually costs the same to produce a Trade Paperback as it does a standard size paperback.
When will <insert title of book here> be released as a Print on Demand title?
In theory, every book that Black Library has ever published could eventually become a PoD title. You’ll just have to be patient!
