Things are already getting quite festive here at BL dungeons. The evil overseers have allowed us five minutes off for lunch and showered us with sprouts and custard. It only seems fair to share the fun, so we thought we'd spoil you with some pretty pictures. We've been flooded with stunning new cover art over the last few weeks – so much so that it's hard to know which to show you first. Here's a bunch of them just to be going on with. Defender of the Imperium and Warrior Priest are both the work of the incredibly talented Clint Langley and the simply stunning Firedrake art is by Salamander artist, Cheol joo Lee.

Hardy Fowler's quickly turning out to be one of our star artists. Just look at all the gritty detail he's put into Iron Hand Straken's messed-up, augmented cyber bits. We're not allowing him to rest on his laurels though – we've already got him working on the next Imperial Fist novel cover, and it's looking like that will be equally tasty. Waiting Death is released in April, written by Steve Lyons and will bursting with crunchy, Catachan goodness.

More glorious artwork from the legend that is Clint Langley. This time it's a fantastically angry-looking ork for the front of Christian Dunn's forthcoming 40K anthology, Fear the Alien. the book's released in September.

Things can always change in the world of publishing, and life here at BL Towers is no different. And true to form, the author of next year’s Hunt for Voldorius has changed. It will now be written by Andy Hoare. You may remember Andy from such works as Rogue Star and Star of Damocles. Andy used to work for the Design Studio but has now made the switch to full-time freelance writer, so expect to see more from him in the future.

There's an ork at the bottom of this cover who's having a really bad day. I'm not sure how he's managed to lose his entire body, but I have a feeling he might never fully recover. Helsreach is the second of our Space Marine Battles series and the artwork is by the wonderful Jon Sullivan – a man with more talent than is probably legal. The book's released in May and should look very dapper - it will be in the same large format as our omnibus editions and feature a selection of full colour tactical maps.

Chris Wraight is one of the more recent additions to the stable of Black Library authors, and he's now got himself a blog. Chris is kicking off the new Warhammer Heroes series soon, and already he's showing off the mighty fine cover art to Sword of Justice.

Next summer sees the launch of Warhammer Heroes – a range of novels dealing with some of the Old World's biggest, most iconic warriors. We all agreed that the covers needed to convey the epic stature of these larger-than-life characters, so we commissioned Cheol Joo Lee, the artist behind the jaw-dropping cover for Nick Kyme's Salamander. The first book in the series is called Sword of Justice and concerns the Emperor's champion and standard bearer, Ludwig Schwarzhelm. It's being written by Chris Wraight of Iron Company fame and will go on sale next July. We decided to get all fancy pants with the series design, so the artwork will wrap around the jacket and have no text on it all. All the titling will sit underneath on a second piece of cover stock. I'm probably not making myself very clear, but if you look at the mock-up you should get the gist. The finished artifact should look pretty darn spiffing...

For the second Thanquol and Boneripper novel the action has moved to the Lustria - a land of exotic locations and even more exotic creatures. Cover artist, Ralph Horsley has produced this stunning painting (his best yet, I think) which perfectly captures the feel we were after.

Not as though you need any further persuasion to buy Blood Pact, but here's an early review to get you frothing. 'Blood Pact' is one of those books where I finish reading and my first thought is, "why haven't I read all the others?" This thought is closely followed by, "I really need to get my hands on the rest of the series." I've been having trouble getting into books recently but this was one that I picked up and finished in pretty much one go. Abnett is the Warmaster as far as I'm concerned!

There's something a little unnerving about Ulrika's smile on this cover. It kind of reminds me of my cat when she's just swallowed a particularly tasty moth. This is artist Winona Nelson's first cover for us but hopefully we'll be using her on lots more. It's beautifully painted and I think she's got just the right spooky, sinister tone. The book is by Gotrek and Felix author, Nathan Long, and will be released next year.

We were keen to give Gav Thorpe's forthcoming Eldar series a very gritty, military SF feel. So, with that in mind, we asked the artist (Neil Roberts, of Horus Heresy fame) to focus on one figure and really go to town on all the amour and weapon details. He's certainly done that, but he's also managed to portray a completely terrifying character into the bargain. Well done that man! Neil and Gav will both be on hand at this year's UK Games Day to answer any of your mandiblaster-related questions.

Premium Science Fiction site, SF Signal has reviewed Emperor's Mercy: "Zou showed no qualms about introducing a likable character on one page and eviscerating him on the next. With his vivid and detailed descriptions of their crimes, Zou often allowed the various legions of Chaos to upstage our Imperial heroes and kept the pages turning late into the night."

Nick Kyme's eagerly awaited Salamander has been reviewed at My Favourite Books: "I sat for a while and tried to quantify what it was that kept me turning the pages in a blur; fact is, there's no single element- it's the combination of the action, pace, tension and mystery that creates the buzz that keeps you hooked. It's a cracking read and, if this is what we have to look forward to from the Tome of Fire, bring it on!"

Richard Williams introduces a recreation of a swordfight from the novel Reiksguard, demonstrating how the words on the page translate to thrust and parry... with Ronin Traynor and Stuart Boother.

After the phenomenal success of Heroes of the Space Marines, we locked one of our editors (the indefatigable Christian Dunn) in a small cupboard and told him he can’t come out, or have any more cake, until he’s collated another, even better Space Marine anthology. There have been some very strange noises coming from the cupboard (some of which sounded suspiciously like snoring) but, after a quick peak through the keyhole, it looks like he’s starting to assemble something, so we thought we’d better sort out a cover.

Fresh from the blog of Dan Abnett, a heretical statement indeed! Stop me if you’ve heard this, but, originally, I was going to tackle the Thousand Sons side of the deal, and Graham was going to handle the Space Wolves. The reason for this - and I really do understand that the following revelation is such a heretical statement that Eisenhorn might have to come and shoot me through the lungs - is that I don’t really like Space Wolves.

The Time of Legends series has already begun telling the history of some of the Warhammer world’s most legendary heroes and anti-heroes- of the first Emperor, Sigmar Heldenhammer, of the dark necromancer Nagash, and of the destructive years of the Sundering. We’re fast approaching the second books in these three fantastic trilogies, and things are about to step up another gear as we head towards the apocalyptic climaxes of these three incredible stories.

When we discussed the cover for our forthcoming Night Lords novel, the same words kept cropping up: speed, stealth, sinister, bloody scary etc. and I think artist Jon Sullivan has done a great job of capturing just the right tone with this artwork. The image shows two of the key characters from Aaron Dembski-Bowden’s novel: Talos and Malek, as they descend on a poor, unsuspecting foe. Soul Hunter is released in March and each copy will have a twelve volt current running through it, which will immolate anyone who steps within three feet of the book. (OK, that’s a bit of a lie, but it will be printed on shiny, metallic ink which I think is almost as cool.)
