Adrian Smith was born in Sussex in 1969. After leaving school he went straight into a clerical job. Upon thinking there must be more to life than that, he studied graphic design in Goring-by-Sea. On a friend's suggestion that he should perhaps try his hand at freelance drawing, he sent a small portfolio of his drawings to Games Workshop.
After a year Adrian decided to pursue a freelance career which saw him produce covers for 'Toxic', 'Wizards of the Coast' and Fantasy Forge. He stayed with Fantasy Forge for some time doing lots of work for the quietly famous 'Kryomek' games. When he returned to freelance work he found that his reputation had spread, and work was not hard to come by.
But he began to hanker for Games Workshop again after seeing the output of the new studio artists. He asked to come back and he spent another year working in-house. There he met the Masters of the Black Library and realised that his talents were in high demand to cater for their insatiable appetite for novel and comic covers, posters, internal illustrations and comic strips.
Adrian Smith produces much fine work for many companies, and now lives in Scotland with his partner Avril, son Louis, and Newt, the family protector.
